Construction Updates

It was encouraging to come back after a week away at a Church Workers Conference and see all the pitched roof joists in place over the section connecting church and school. Not only that, but there was a goodly amount of plywood over them as well. Today, (Monday) the rest of the roof plywood was put in place, and tomorrow the roofers come. This is indeed good news especially since last week’s monsoon is fresh in our memory. The sunny weather from Saturday through tomorrow is helping dry out that wing. With sunny weather tomorrow the roofers can get a weather barrier between us and the elements. It feels good to see a roof line and to know the building is gradually becoming enclosed.

All of the rooms on the second story, now have the stud-framing in place, so that as a person walks through the area, the size and relation of the rooms to one another is apparent. The second story above the narthex (entry foyer) include rooms for Discovery (learning disability) program, music, computer, a conference and several storage rooms. The elevator will bring easy access from the foyer below and the south stairs of the school will bring access from the first floor school hallway.

We are still planning to have our first worship service in the sanctuary, Sunday, December 21. Larry tells me the walls will have sheetrock on them, the lights and ceilings will be in place, but we may not have the flooring in place. I assured him that we could certainly walk across plywood floors to worship in the sanctuary. We will probably have work parties on Friday and Saturday, December 19, 20. Not so much heavy moving, but a lot of cleaning. Count on lending a hand.
