OUR READINGS - Romans 8: 31-39, Luke 19: 28-38
MESSAGE - "Son of God: The Coming King"
Just a few days before His betrayal, torture and crucifixion, Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem as a coming King. People thought He was coming as a "military messiah" that would conquer their Roman occupiers - they didn't understand that Jesus was coming to conquer the greater enemies of sin, death, and the power of the devil. They didn't understand that Jesus was coming to die as a sacrificial lamb in the place of sinful humanity. To them, it looked like defeat. But they had not yet experienced the next chapter of the story and the victory that Jesus has now won in His death and resurrection. As we begin Holy Week, we want to welcome Jesus as the King who has come - who has conquered, has been sacrificed and is alive today. We invite and welcome Him to rule and direct our lives with His love and the presence of His Spirit!
