FOUNDation - FORMation - HOPE for the Future

by Jeremy McKim

My wife Sydel and I chose Hope Lutheran School because of the rich history my sister Jennifer and I shared there as well as the involvement my parents have had for so many years. We see Jesus at work at Hope School and look forward to being part of and contributing to a place with strong Christ centered roots and values.

I am most excited about Bailey going into kindergarten, and Hunter going into preschool to learn from teachers that point them to Jesus.

Mrs. Gruenhagen was my first grade teacher. My best memory of 1st grade was growing strawberry plants which multiplied year after year. Gardening remains a strong passion for me today, and my daughter Bailey seems to be getting the hang of it and works right on my heals in the soil.

Ken Wilke, my 7th grade teacher, gave me a strong curiosity and love for science and nature. My highlight of that year was making a windmill out of soup cans for the science fair. My son, Hunter, is a very hands-on little guy. He loves to work and get his hands dirty and discover as he goes. I imagine that science fairs could be his stage.

When Sydel asked Bailey what she is most excited for at Hope she said without hesitation, “I’m most excited to play with my teacher and play with blocks and puzzles. I am excited to play with new friends.” When Hunter was asked he said very seriously, “For them celebrating me” (Mrs. Tornow told him about how they get to celebrate every child’s birthday). He then said, “and for wearing my ‘light up’ shoes and for my teacher, Mrs. Tornow.”

As we approach this school year it is a huge event for our family as we know it is for all parents. We are grateful Bailey and Hunter will be at Hope School, and we look forward to being a part of something very special.
