Week of January 31, 2012
Literacy
This week we are using different skills to determine vocabulary words in our reading. We are working with using context to find the meaning of new words, using similar words to check the meaning, and finding the word in the glossary. We are also working with Âl blends (clear, glisten, blanket) and putting words into alphabetical order.

Math
Math lessons this week begin subtraction with regrouping (borrowing). This week we are using unifix cubes to take away the second number. At the end of the week, we will be writing the problems in standard form and will continue practicing that through next week. Homework is optional, but encouraged to give the students extra practice.
Religion/Memory
Stories this week are about the cleansing of Naaman and Josiah, the boy king.

Science
Science lessons this week are working with weather and weather tools. We are also continuing our prep work for our Museum of Flight field trip.
Lutheran Schools Sunday-February 12
Students in Preschool-grade 3 will be singing in the 8:00 am service here at Hope on Sunday, February 12th as part of Lutheran Schools Week. We hope your child/ren will be able to join us.
Museum of Flight field trip date
Our field trip to the Museum of Flight has been rescheduled for Friday, February 10th. We will keep the same schedule-leaving school at noon and returning shortly before the end of the school day. Drivers are Mr. Werfelmann (bus), Mrs. Ferguson, and Mr. Turner (and Mrs. Morris, additional chaperone). If you are unable to help due to the changed date, please let me know right away.
School Reading Progra-Reading logs
The third quarter of the school year began last Tuesday, January 24 and runs through Friday, March 30. Six reading logs are required to qualify for the ice cream treat and to stay on schedule for tickets to Enchanted Parks at the end of the school year.
Valentine's Party
Our class valentine party will be in the afternoon of Tuesday, February 14th. Students may exchange valentine cards if everyone is included. More information will be coming later.
