Sea Star Newsletter
January 30th - February 3rd, 2012
We've talked about what happens when we go to bed, and how the night sky looks as we sleep. Now we will explore nocturnal animals and what "nocturnal" means. We touched on this around Halloween, but as we finish up night time, we'll see who's awake when we're asleep. Winter is truly upon us and we'll bring the cold inside and experiment with ice, salt and Crisco (are you curious about the Crisco?).
*The Mon-Wed group had their first "popsicle day" for earning 5 X's for working hard following the rules. Our Thurs-Fri class will have theirs on Thursday. Well done Sea Stars!!
Important info and dates:
Snack: Karthauser Family - Jan 30th(Mon)-Feb 3rd(Fri)
Open House is this Tuesday, Jan 31st at 7:00. Please come and explore the classrooms.
No chapel this week, because of a scheduling conflict.
Sunday, Feb. 12 : Preschool through 3rd grade are invited to sing at Hopes 8:00 am service. We will be practicing a song to share and this is part of our celebration of Lutheran Schools and Spirit Week (Feb. 9-15).
Tuesday, Feb. 14: Preschool Valentine Party: I will email the room parents soon. All kids (Thurs/Fri group) are welcome to join us for the party, at 9:45-11:15. We usually have a special snack, a story, game or craft and time to pass out valentine cards. There are 23 kids and 2 teachers. Cards may be hand-made or store purchased. Please have your child sign their name (or you) to the cards rather than put other students names on them. Thanks!
Feb. 16, 17 & 20 & 21: No school - Hope will be participating in LEST (Lutheran elementary school tournament) in Portland, Ore. This is a wonderful annual competition in sports, cheer, drill team, math, music, chess, art and essay etc. with other Lutheran schools in our district. Spirit week leads up to the tournament and you will hear about what the kids can wear to school to be part of the fun. Cheer on the Eagles! Monday the 20th is Presidents day and Tuesday, the 21st is a mid-winter break day off.
Thank you parents, for helping last week, we really appreciate your time and energy!! We are almost done with assessments so please see me when you drop off to determine if we still need coverage.
**I have finally registered online for Scholastic Book clubs. So, if you'd like to order books you go to: Scholastic.com/book clubs and the class activation code is: KBTC2. If you use this code the points go to our class. If you have any questions or trouble please let me know. New book orders and reading charts are in the cubbies.
**And one more thing...
if you have any children's clothes to donate, we could sure use them for our class emergency stash. Thanks!
