Housekeeping:
* We had so much fun last week building the space shuttle/rocket ship! The kids have learned a lot about outer space and along with that, have been able to plan, share and cooperate building a class structure! With the loss of snow days, we will continue space for a bit longer this week and then the space ship will blast off into the recycle (unless someone wants to transport it home for play - let me know). I have been putting up work the kids have been doing on an in-class bulletin board - come on in and take a look!
*Show and tells about space and light still welcome!
*Tuesday night is OPEN HOUSE! Come learn about our k-12 school and meet all the teachers. I hope many of you will be able to attend and tour through the whole school. WeÂll begin at 7:00 in the church sanctuary.
*Reading chart for January due. Feb coming home.
*Book orders due on Wed. (I havenÂt sent in Jan yet, so will do them together  sorry!)
*Please sign-up if youÂd like to be a classroom helper on the entry board.
Thank you!!
* Journals: We began using journals for story telling! Several of the kids got right into it and are going to get their journal from the writing tub each day and adding their own pictures and stories. This will be an ongoing activity all the rest of the year. Anytime they want to dictate a story, they can and at the end of the year, they will get to take them home. We also plan to act out some of the stories as we can fit them in time wise. One of their favorite activities in preschool. Lots of great academic skills come out of this activity and it's a great confidence builder as well. Another literacy project planned this week is our group story. I will begin a story with the "talking stick" and each child in turn is invited to add a part to the story as it goes around the circle. Can't wait to see how the story goes!
* Looking ahead, here are some important dates to take note of:
Sunday, Feb. 12 : Preschool through 3rd grade are invited to come and sing at Hopes 8:00 am service. We will be practicing a song to share and this is part of our celebration of Lutheran Schools and Spirit Week (Feb. 9 Â 15).
Feb. 14: Preschool Valentine party (room parents, letÂs touch base)
We usually have a special snack, a story, game or craft and time to pass out valentine cards. There are 17 kiddos and 2 teachers. Cards may be hand-made or store purchased. Please have your child sign their name to the cards rather than put other students names on them. It makes it much smoother to pass them out. Thanks! XXOO
Feb. 16, 17 & 20 & 21: No school - Hope will be participating in LEST (Lutheran elementary school tournament) in Portland, Ore. This is a wonderful annual competition in sports, cheer, drill team, math, music, chess, art and essay etc. with other Lutheran schools in our district. Spirit week leads up to the tournament and you will hear about what the kids can wear to school to be part of the fun. Cheer on the Eagles! Monday the 20th is Presidents day and a holiday for winter.
Blesings!
Marie and Lucy
