Hope School Newsletter

  September 7, 2010
School Announcements
Our school newsletter or “Words of Hope” will start up next Tuesday, September 14th and be published every other week. Our newsletter will be posted to our website at www.hopeseattle.org. After the first issue we will no longer send home a hard copy. Please notify the school office at 206-935-8500 if you require a hard copy. Our bi-weekly newsletter is used for general announcements, calendar date reminders, Parent Involvement Program opportunities, sports, and much more! Other communication tools we utilize are Vertical Response, which goes out via email and SchoolReach, which goes out via phone. Please ensure that the school office has current up to date information for your family.

Orientation Night
It was so great to see many of you at our Orientation Night this past Tuesday evening; we had a good turnout of families and we hope that you received some valuable information about the coming year. Thank you for coming!

Fall Sports
All parents of fifth through eighth graders should have received information from our fall sports coaches. We are pleased to offer boys and girls cross country to all 5th through 8th grade students this fall, coached by Sharman McAllister. We also offer 7th and 8th grade boys flag football (with limited playing time for 6th graders), coached by Tom Warnke. Our final fall sport is 7th and 8th grade girls volleyball, coached by Kristin Tarabochia. If you have questions or would like to sign up, please contact the coaches directly or contact our school office. We hope to see a good turnout both with athletes and supporters!

Playground Packets
For all parents who volunteer at lunch and recess time – thank you so much! It is a total blessing for our hard working teachers. Parents, please remember to sign in and out at our main office. Beginning this year, you will also pickup a small accordion file holding injury reports and discipline reports – a playground packet! If a student has an injury that involves first aid or requires discipline support from you, we ask that you fill out one of these forms and hand it to the student’s teacher when they return from lunch for the teacher to handle as needed. We value each child’s privacy, so in keeping with our school’s policy, we ask that you keep this information confidential. Please return the accordion file of blank forms back to the office when you sign out.

Chapel Offering Envelopes
Offerings are collected during chapel from the students using their weekly offering envelopes (which are distributed in the Tuesday communication packet). These offerings allow students to develop a pattern of giving as part of their Christian lives and to share God’s love by supporting missions and charities. Therefore, we encourage students to give from their own money (allowances, earnings and the like).

Prayer Chains
We are blessed to have two prayer chains at Hope: 1) a prayer request through the school office that goes to our parent prayer group - email at swallace@hopeseattle.org or complete prayer request form in school office 2) online through our website that will be printed in our newsletter. Please ensure that you have received the person’s permission to put the request on the prayer chain and be specific, providing the first name of the person and the reason for the request.

School Crossing Guard
We were notified by the Seattle Police Department that we lost funding for the position of School Crossing Guard. We are looking for volunteers to help fill this position. Hours before school are 7:45 AM to 8:30 AM and after school from 2:45 PM to 3:30 PM. Please contact Mrs. Wallace at 206-935-8500 if you are interested. Training and crossing materials will be provided.
