Hope School Newsletter
Words of Hope for Tuesday, January 31, 2012
This morning my four year old daughter was feeling sick, had a cough and a runny nose. As my wife and I were talking about the possibility of keeping her home today, she blurted out emphatically, ÂBut I want to go to school! ThatÂs certainly not the answer that every child would give, and I donÂt think her answer has anything to do with the fact that sheÂs my daughter. I believe that she really wants to go to school because she is receiving a high quality educational experience in a Christ-centered and love-filled environment. She probably wouldnÂt articulate it that way, but the reality is all of us who have children enrolled in Hope Lutheran School are receiving a blessing that is beyond anything we can imagine and that is worth more than we know!
Each winter, Hope Lutheran School joins with other Lutheran schools across the United States to celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week. This year, HopeÂs celebration will be the week of February 12-19, beginning with a celebration of National Lutheran Schools Sunday on February 12th in both of Hope Lutheran ChurchÂs worship services at 8:00 and 10:30 AM.
Lutheran churches have been building and growing Lutheran Christian schools for almost 500 years because of a strong belief in the value of education and faith development. HopeÂs preschool is part of a community of over 2300 Lutheran early childhood centers and preschools around the Unites States providing for the educational needs of over 129,000 students. Additionally, our Hope Lutheran elementary/middle school is part of a community of 945 other such schools around the country educating over 107,000 students. Beyond the eighth grade, we also have 91 high schools (of which Seattle Lutheran High School is one), 10 universities and 2 seminaries all supported by 6,000 churches made up of 2.1 million members jointly employing 8,000 pastors, 18,000 teachers and over 500 DCEs (Directors of Christian Education/Youth Ministers).
Wow! Hope Lutheran School is part of a long and incredible educational tradition that wants students to excel academically and to experientially know the love Jesus Christ has for them! Being connected to such a large community has many benefits for our school ranging from training for current and future staff, funding for the remodel of our school that was completed a few years ago, and many other resources and opportunities for students and staff alike.
National Lutheran Schools Week is a time for us to celebrate the gift of Hope Lutheran School for our children and our families! ItÂs a time to give thanks to God as well as to the teachers and staff who work hard with our children. ItÂs also a time to consider how we might give back in volunteer hours, in financial gifts, and in the referral of new students to help ensure the continued growth of the school and a wonderful educational experience for our children and those who will follow them!
Thank-you for entrusting Hope Lutheran School with your childÂs education and for your support of this school! Along with those who have gone before us for the last 500 years, I am passionately committed to working with the Hope Lutheran Church and Schools staff and board members to pursue continued excellence in academics and faith development, and IÂm thankful for your partnership in our schools!
In His Peace and Joy,
Peter Mueller
Sr. Pastor, Hope Lutheran Church and Schools

LEST Update
We are sending home folders today to our LEST families. The folders include some information about LEST from our hosts, Concordia University, as well as our anticipated times of competitions for our students. Please be aware that these times could change. Please let us know in the office if you have any questions!
Baptisms
As you all may know, every month during chapel we have been recognizing those students who were baptized during that month in another year with a Âbaptismal anniversaryÂ. This has been a great addition to our chapel services! The students have really responded well to watching their friends and teachers get recognized for their baptisms. With this being said, some students have shown interest in learning more about baptism and some even have asked what it takes to be baptized. If you are interested in getting your student baptized or would just like to gather information about what we believe about baptism, please contact Pastor Peter or the church office for more information at 206-937-9330.
Hope Lutheran School Annual Golf Tournament is set for Friday, June 8, 2012!
The date has been set for Friday June 8th at 8:00 AM for the annual golf tournament. It will once again be held at Foster Golf Links in Tukwila. Tournament and sponsorship information will be available soon. If you have any questions or would like to help organize this yearÂs tournament please contact Mr. Kapels at bkapels@hopeseattle.org.
Lost and Found Bin
Our Lost and Found Bin is over flowing with lost clothes! If your child is missing anything that had been brought or worn to school, this would be the place to look. Our bin is located just inside the front doors of the school lobby. We will be cleaning it out during our February winter break and donating items that are not claimed.
New Member Class at Hope Lutheran Church
A winter session of ÂHope 101Â, a new membership class, will begin on February 5th and end on March 11th during the Sunday Education hour (9:30 Â 10:15 AM) with an intensive session on February 12th from 12:30 Â 4:00 PM.
